BISONS 18U RECAP

Playing on a team with 8 of your best friends can only finish with high outcomes!  We Bison 18U girls have certainly had a successful season.  We landed in the final of each tournament we entered and won 3 out of 7.  The only exception was New Orleans where we finished top 8 against some of the best teams in the USA, played really competitive volleyball and had a great experience.  We gelled early as a team; something that
usually takes a while to come together.  Being on a team where laughter and memories are an added plus to the talent we each brought only helped add to our team’s successes.  We played our hearts out every time we faced competition.  We made our Provincial finals and beat Brandon Storm 25 – 23 both sets to become Provincial Champions.  During Nationals, we came first in our pool on the opening day, and lost a close game to the Ottawa Mavericks on the second day placing us second in our pool.  An obstacle for many, but just a challenge for us, we played Durham Attack from Oshawa, Ontario in our pre – quarters and knocked them out in two sets and that led us into our quarters.  Having to face the Calgary Dinos who were one of the teams expected to win this year, we put on our game faces and stepped up to the challenge.  We lost the first set, and fought back hard the second set and proved to them and us that we were ready to take them on in the third set.  We did come out on top
and now lived on to the semi finals.  We played the Waterloo Predators from Ontario in another exhausting game that had us lose the first set and battle back and win the second and third set to carry on to the finals! Unfortunately, after an exhausting day, Brandon Storm beat us in two sets reclaiming the National title for the second year in a row.

Having players and talent like this only comes together every so often, and it’s all thanks to our coaches, Garth and Cindy Pischke, who put in indescribable amounts of time and effort to make us the best players we could be and learn more than just how to play the game.  They taught us the mental aspects of the game, as well as how to read the game in the moment of the play.  But most importantly, they taught us how to be respectable athletes and young women on and off the court.  The laughs we shared with them, and the moments that will forever be remembered will stay with each one of us as we move on in our careers and in our lives as well.  This season will be one that can easily be remembered.
